OBS!!!

I'm back from OBS. Leadership JUMPSTART - 4 Days Course! I'm on a leadershi[p learning course send by my company. Let me briefly explain what's gong on...

1st day - Wall/Rock Climbing.
This is my first time... The walls are panels of square tiles... 3 X 15... each tiles is 1m by 1m. So it's 3m wide and 15m high. I climb it twice and i completed once (reach the top and tap on the top plank), the 2nd time i'm too exhausted but i'm close to finishing it. It's really very madness and i think i'm scared. I had climbed like 10m and i look down... and my body tremble thou i know i'm in safe hands - ropes attached and secured to a belayer... a belayer is someone who make sure he "catches" you when you fall off. I calm myself down and then i gain control of my body again. lesson learned - Fear halves your ability, hinder your progress. If you are someone who is not very confident i would advise you work harder learn more about yourself.
For my baby i would like to tell her that i think she had very good self-confident and the ability to remain calm and speak confidently, don't let others affect you my baby... I'm still learning to be more confident with myself. This is the major event for the 1st day. And beside the normal wall that we climb which is quite flat at 90 degrees, there is a middle wall of panels which is inclined, it's harder to climb and my coursemate some of them attempt to scale it but fail at the inclined section (last 3 panels), want to say it's very brave of them!

2nd day - High Rope Obstacles
This part is also about high ropes and logs climbing... higher than the wall that we climb the day before... more challenging as it's not flat and so easy to climb, ropes move more as you pull yourself up and the route up is not as obvious and you have to move left and right and use different hooks, ropes, tyres to move up all of which move as you pull, step on it... very very exhausting mentally and physically. I climbed and completed the inner course once and for the outer course i attempt and didn't really went very far, only clear 2 logs. Total there are 6 logs and as you go higher they are farther apart and you really had to jumped upwards catch and push yourself up or your buddy pulled you up. All the way the log you are standing sway and sway making it very scary... imagine had to jump on a swaying log and push yourself upwards! My legs felt like jelly. But the 2 girls in my course did very well and i think they are very brave too... Heh... Lesson i gain, if this route doesn't work, you had to change and scale from the other places, you might not succeed the first time but if you give up you fail.... you don't fail unless you give up on yourself... everyone can tell you how to do it, even do it to show you how it can be done but if you don't believe in yourself no one can... A leader had to do whatever it takes to reach your goal first before others can follow in your step... lead by example as we had learnt.

3rd Day - Kayaking (Whole Day)
This is the shiok part. There's a lot of preparations to do and it's meant to exhaust us physically to see who can emerged in times of stresses. We kayak in pairs and i really must thanks my partner who is very stable as i say. I think we did the best in my Group as we can keep kayaking straight most of the time while others are still snaking around. Heh, but it's time like this where you can see all the anger and commanding, no use if you shout only, you also can steer the direction and help share the load you know - by paddling too my friend... not only shouting. 5 hours at sea with the hot hot sun and endless applying of sunscreen lotion which i make it a point to remind my friend to take care of themselves. It's damn hot lor, some of them are really burnt badly... Then it rains and it get cold.... think some of us are going to get sick... hot and cold, wet then dry.... bad combination. But i really enjoy it, maybe because it's just with me and my partner so i don't have to express myself in a group...
A leader is like kayaking, you have to observe the sea and tide and had very good sense of SA - Situations Awareness! it's very important i think. Good analysing skill, decide what actions to take and lead if required. It's either you leads your kayak or your kayak leads you. Real life is also a lot of up and down... it's how you pick yourself up, how you emerge stronger than before. I learnt that everyone will definitely fail some point in life, mistakes will be made... it's how you take it in your stride, how you come out of the situation/turn it around... do you let it affect you? Do you tell yourself that you wan to do better the next time round? Do you encourage yourself and say it's ok to make mistake and to do better again? I enjoy the expedition even thou i'm very tired and there's rain, i just relax and feel the coldness of the rain on my face... let it soak my scald skin and move on with the waves on my side, some of them couldn't take it at this point and stop. Joowell shoulder injury make him tired very easy... i try to push him on and naga who is also very exhausted. Team spirit is there as everyone trys to motivate one another... the better ones helping to keep a lookup on the injured and exhausted ones.

There's still camp to be built after this and project to be present the next day...

4th Day - Raft-Building
We had to play mini games which required leading to earn money to buy materials for building our raft. Alot of coordinating is required and efforts and planning and everything to break us... haha... but i'm a parasite i just ride on the waves... heh... naughty me.. haha.. i just help out with the cooking and games... heh... guess it's do helps a bit as we put what we are good at into use even if it's a little stuff like this.... Tired and burnt out we manage to complete our raft and row back to camp 1!... Then we get ready to present our report and meet up with the management. We had a cert-presentation... heh... Yeah! We survived the 4 days!...

The instructors are really very cool and compose and i feel that i can feel their leadership... hope i can lead my team in the future. Just to mention that everyone had to lead at least once some point in the 4 days. I lead my group in the event called Key-punching. The instructor for my group, Edvan, commented that i'm very organise and i explain the rules very clearly and easily to understand than the other group leader who is having some problem putting his point across. But i know i still need to do better.

My 2nd stage in my work life is starting and i had ended my classroom lessons... Time to sweat it all out at the hangars... Wish me luck in my work and future ahead.

I miss my baby the whole 4 days, and joowell and beng soon is making fun of me everytime i called my baby... it feels good to know there is someone out there who is thinking of you, i know my baby will be worry when i'm kayaking and when it rains and when i'm camping out there, as i sleep at night, and every moment of the day... thank you my baby for always being there with me even if we are miles apart... Muackz...
